ONE
The laboratory in its landscape.
The two individual labs exist in the large upper and lower prisms. Charles Darwin is to inhabit the one down the bottom and the interconnecting prisms form terracing up to Nicole Kuepper's, a raised space to enable capture of the sun for her studies into photovoltaics and renewable energy. This terracing effect is reflected in the shaping of the landscapes where the ramps are terraced into the environment. This design reflects the idea of evolution, Darwin's studies mirrored - things develop to suit the environment but wouldn't become what they are without what precedes and supports them.
TWO
This image shows the terracing connecting the laboratories. A connecting place between the two individual labs it is a meeting point to collaborate and appreciate the location of the building.
THREE
Illuminating the terracing about the laboratories this image depicts the reflection between building and landscape. The terracing on the left hand side is a place to walk and contemplate. The ramp lit up on the right side runs down from the lower lab to meet a plateau. This plateau is also connected to a passage which cuts through and winds up the back of the headland to connect the upper lab. Walks forcing the scientists to leave the recognised lab space before connecting on this lower plateau in conversation.
FOUR
The rear walkway showing pathway cut through headland at left and winding ramp up to upper lab which then terraces down to the lower lab.
FIVE
Aerial view of the laboratories in the landscape.
